he music, sights, and words that invigorated a nation, stirred protests, and effected change in the 1960s are celebrated. Folk songs and R&B classics like Sam Cooke’s “A Change Is Gonna Come” and Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” Jimi Hendrix’s “Purple Haze” and “We Shall Overcome”—the anthem of the era—define a time when voices were raised and arms were interlocked in a movement seeking justice and social change. A stellar cast of performers whose music inspired and entertained is joined by the next generation of performers with something to say. This multimedia performance reminds us of this remarkable time that resonates today.
